Training update based on a recent crews’ encounter with an agent that was potentially identified as cyanide. This training will address what to do should you encounter a potentially hazardous material on a call.
When you encounter an unknown agent in the field, or one that is being reported to be a hazardous agent, secure in place without coming into contact with it (touch, inhalation or other means of exposure) and contact the local HazMat Team. As of the establishment of this course, the Genesee County HazMat team is headed out of the Mundy Township Fire Department. Based on the nature of our calls and the fact that you will most likely be responsible for transporting your patient to the ED, use your resources (fire, PD etc.) to assist in securing the agent and establishment of a hot, warm and cold zone pending HazMat team arrival.
